2020 Recall: HiLux & Fortuner 2018 Models

TOYOTA Australia has issued a safety recall for nearly 24,000 vehicles over fears of faulty brakes.

The carmaker is concerned the fault applies to diesel HiLux and Fortuner vehicles made between June and December 2018.

In its recall statement, it said the strength of the resin piston in the brake booster was at risk of degrading due to an error during production. In such a case, repeated use of the brake pedal could cause the piston to break, potentially causing loss of brake assist and increasing the vehicle's stopping distance.

If applicable, Toyota would replace the brake booster for free, it said. Owners will be contacted by text.
